On Monday, March 11, 2013, Atlantic Legal Foundation honored William H. Swanson, Chairman and CEO of Raytheon Company, with the Foundations 25th Annual Award and also presented its fourth Lifetime Achievement Award to Richard Wilson, Mallinckrodt Professor of Physics, Emeritus, at Harvard University and a long-time advisor to Atlantic Legal. The Dinner was held in the Halls of Flags at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC.
Swanson focused on Business Critical Role in STEM Education for U.S. Competitiveness. An early and respected leader in support of science, technology, engineering and math education (STEM), Swanson urged businesses that may still be on the education sidelines in supporting STEM education to, Put on your helmets and pads and join us on the field. It was, he said, the right thing to do for business and its the right thing to do for our country.
In his remarks Swanson referred to two short videos, the first demonstrating statistics and figures which frame our nations STEM challenge (to view, please click here) and the second which outlined the many ways in which Raytheon is engaged in STEM education (to view, please click here).
Swanson praised the Atlantic Legal Foundation for its consistent support of the principles of public policy that benefit industry and the private sector.
