R Street Institute Panel: Scientific Evidence In the Courtroom

In conjunction with ALF’s sound-science-in-the-courtroom mission, on September 9, 2021 ALF Executive Vice President & General Counsel Larry Ebner participated in a panel discussion on Scientific Evidence In the Courtroom.  The panel, part of a virtual event sponsored by the R Street Institute, was moderated by R Street Fellow Anthony Marcum and also included former Boston Scientific General Counsel Tim Pratt.

The panel focused on the trial court judges’  “gatekeeper” role under Federal Rule of Evidence 702, and its state-court counterparts, to keep junk science or other unreliable expert testimony away from juries. The panel also discussed the practical advantages and disadvantages of multidistrict litigation in product liability and other cases involving scientific or technical evidence. A free video recording of the one-hour panel session is available here.
